How much gardeners charge will depend on the demand in their area, their knowledge, tools and the type of work they are able to carry out.
For example: If you are looking for some simple weeding or, if you are looking for a companion gardener, for your parent, who knows every plant in their garden and how to care for them and are willing to impart their knowledge for physical help and companionship, then a gardener just starting out may be grateful for the learning in return for a small hourly rate of £15 – £20.
Once a Weeder gleans more knowledge, skills and equipment then you can expect them to charge £25 an hour or more. A trained horticulturalist can charge in excess of £35 an hour.
We also ask for feedback reviews about the gardeners so that you can see how other customers value them and their popularity.
Please pay your gardener directly. WeWeed does not have any part in your financial arrangements.
We would appreciate you writing are review for them though.
Reviews are really important in building Weeders’ reputations within the local community as well as supporting them in their learning and development.
WeWeed is a brand-new platform and it will take us time to get the word out and recruit more budding gardeners to each area in the UK.
If there is no-one available in your area, please still register so that gardeners in your area can message you when they sign up with us.
It’s not mandatory to have Public Liability Insurance but for peace of mind we would strongly recommend that you employ gardeners that do have this protection, especially if you expect them to use machinery or dig deeper than using a hand fork.
We would recommenced that you ask them to email you a copy of their certificate of insurance, if their profile says they have one as we are unable to verify any documentation.
If you are looking for a gardener on behalf of someone who is vulnerable, you may consider someone with a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check.
This enables employers to check the criminal records of current and potential employees in order to ascertain whether or not they are suitable to work with vulnerable adults and children.
If the gardener already has a ‘Standard Check’ it will show on their profile. Please ask them to email it to you as we are unable to verify documentation.
If they do not have one you could ask them to apply for one.
There is a cost involved with this process which the gardener may ask you to cover. Please note also, that the time it takes to process these checks.
We ask garden owners to leave reviews to encourage gardeners to work hard to get positive feedback. It also helps us to monitor standards and enables garden owners to find the right gardener for them.
If a review is less than 5 stars but is fair, and objectively written (and so useful to the development of the gardener) then we will accept it. If it is unnecessarily, hurtful, rude, sarcastic, or deemed offensive we would remove it and may ask you what went wrong.
We understand that sometimes expectations aren’t met but we would rather a misunderstanding was resolved privately than punishment delivered by way of a hurtful and damaging public review.
If something has gone seriously wrong, then please get in touch and we will see if we can mediate but, as gardeners are self-employed, we can only make suggestions and are unable to get involved in litigation or financial disputes.
