As with meeting anyone for the first time, you are responsible for your own safety. Please read our advisory protocol and if you are in any doubt, do not feel pressured to go forward.
Your email, and phone number that you register with will NOT be made visible to the public or the garden owner before or when you message them. However, your location will be added to our interactive map so customers and other gardeners can see how local you are to them. Be mindful of whether you are comfortable adding your whole address or just your town name here.
Once you have upgraded as a full, supporting member you will be able to reply to any messages from customers and other gardeners who enquire about your services. You will also have the option to add your social pages and other contact details to your public profile if you so wish. These WILL be visible to any registered users. Â
Call the enquirer and chat with them about their gardening needs: Did you get on well? Do you have any shared interests or people you know? Is the work they are asking of you appropriate and doable for your level of skill sets and knowledge?
If you feel confident to go ahead at this stage, before you arrange to meet them, ask them for their full name, address, email, phone number, and social media page.
Check out their address on Google Maps and most importantly, their social profiles. You must feel comfortable that the person’s profile is genuine and that they have connections within your local community.
We encourage gardeners to send the same in return so that enquirers can see that you are a pillar of the community too.
If you are still feeling positive about the person, arrange to go round to see their garden. Make sure you tell someone where you are going and that you will contact them within 30 minutes if you are going to stay longer. You could also take someone with you as a chaperone.
If you feel uneasy or have concerns at any point in the process of working for a garden owner, politely make your excuses, and discontinue your interactions with them. WeWeed can not take responsibility for your safety.
